WORKING WATER COLUMN (Gauge 1)
A water column which actually works!
Water is supplied from a low pressure container situated below baseboard level, or by gravity from a high-level tank. The flow is turned on and off by means of the control valve, which is of scale appearance. Water-tight rotation of the arm is achieved by means of a swivelling joint below baseboard level. The model is based on the N.E.R. style of water column, and is supplied as a kit of parts in brass, copper and plastic, or as a fully built and painted model.
The photograph shows the main components of the kits.
The column is turned from Delrin plastic, the remaining components being of brass, nickel-silver and copper.
Installation is achieved by drilling two holes through the baseboard, 1/2in. (12,7mm) for the column spigot, and 1/4in. (6,35mm) for the water valve.
The version shown on the left is of a height suitable for installation at ground level. The right hand version is for mounting at platform height..
The quick-release water fittings will accept 6mm diameter plastic tubing (supplied).
